Job Title: Business Support Officer - Environmental Health & Licensing (Maternity Cover)
Location: - Hybrid (approx. 1 day/week on-site at Taunton, Bridgwater, Shepton Mallet or Yeovil offices)
Duration: Maternity Cover until 31st December 2025
Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday- 37 Hours Per Week

Overview:
Berkeley Scott is currently recruiting on behalf of their client in the public sector for a dedicated and proactive Business Support Officer to join their Environmental Health and Licensing team on a maternity cover contract. This is a hybrid role with flexible working and occasional on-site presence, particularly during the training period.
Key Responsibilities:
Work as part of a multi-skilled team to deliver a wide range of statutory and non-statutory processes, ensuring an efficient and high-quality service for both internal and external customers.
Act as the first point of contact for service requests, handling various applications, notifications, queries, and complaints.
Serve as case officer for investigations, ensuring resolution in line with statutory requirements and service standards.
Engage with businesses and the public to offer advice, negotiate, and influence outcomes under the supervision of specialist officers or managers.
Identify appropriate methods for handling a range of technical service requests and applications, escalating to senior officers when necessary.
Use technical knowledge and discretion to manage and resolve complex service requests, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and internal procedures.
Maintain excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and adapt to changing workloads in a dynamic, multi-skilled environment.
Requirements:
Previous experience in a similar administrative, case management, or business support role (public sector experience desirable).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive or complex interactions.
Comfortable working independently and within a team, with sound judgement and decision-making abilities.
Familiarity with regulatory or licensing environments would be an advantage.
Excellent IT and organisational skills with a flexible, problem-solving mindset.
